Change your dog's problem behaviour. Help your dog learn good manners or new skills. Tailored training options.
Want to enjoy relaxing strolls with your dog on a loose lead instead of being dragged around? Like to feel comfortable having visitors because your dog greets people nicely by sitting instead of barking and jumping up? Have to be sure your dog comes when called, instead of trying to catch him? Need to feel safe around your dog instead of worrying that growls might turn into a bite?
Dog behaviour issues I can help you with
I can help with most dog behaviour problems. Some of the very common issues pet dog owners encounter include:
Pulling on lead
Barking and lunging at other dogs while out for a walk
Not coming when called
Jumping up on people
Chewing your belongings
Guarding food or toys
Nipping
Fearful or timid behaviour
Separation anxiety
What is natural behaviour for dogs can become a problem for humans; often it’s just a matter of lack of education. Using reward-based methods, most dogs learn quickly how to be well behaved.
Changes in behaviour can often be the first signs that your dog could be experiencing physical pain or health issues. An assessment by your vet or a qualified osteopath may help with a diagnosis.

Dog training options
I train your dog for you
Depending on your dog's behaviour issue, an easy and convenient option is to get me to work with your dog in your own home.
With my experience and understanding of learning theory, I'm often able to achieve training goals quite fast. In addition, many people just can't find the time to train or don't have the interest to learn about animal behaviour.
I would visit your home at pre-arranged times to work with your dog.
Once your dog knows the new behaviour and performs it reliably, I would simply show you easy ways to maintain your dog’s manners and to manage challenging situations in the future.
I coach you to train your dog
Alternatively, I can coach you to change your dog's problem behaviour or to train new good manners.
I would explain what the best approach for your training goals is, outline the training steps, and demonstrate the training techniques and mechanics to you. Then it’s over to you to practice with your dog while I coach you, and to carry on with the training until my next session with you.
If you have the time and interest, training your dog with rewards can become a fun activity you can do together, and it’s great for your relationship with your dog.
What to expect in the initial consultation session
When you first contact me, I listen to your concerns and issues, and ask a few questions about your dog’s history and environment. I then usually arrange for an initial consultation session with you and your dog.
The initial consultation session is an opportunity for me to
observe and assess your dog
identify possible causes of your dog’s behavior problems and how I could change them
hear from you what you would like to achieve with the training
I can then give you an indication of how many training sessions will be required to address your dog’s problem behaviour and what likely training outcomes you can expect. If necessary, I will also give you advice and guidance about how to manage the issues in the meantime - until your dog's training has been completed successfully.
I then develop and tailor a training plan to the needs of you and your dog.
How I train
I use modern, force-free (reward-based) dog training methods including 'clicker training' to educate your dog about how to live politely in a human world, and in particular as a member of your family.
Using rewards such as treats or toys works extremely well. Your dog learns fast and will be keen and happy to do what you want him to do.
As a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers NZ (APDTNZ), I never use aversive, dominance-based training techniques, which I believe may result in 'quick fixes' but ultimately cause more long-term harm than good while damaging the owner-dog relationship.
Where I train
I can train your dog at your home, or I may meet or take your dog to specific locations with your pre-approval. It greatly depends on the behaviour problem you’d like me to help you with, and I would discuss your dog’s training plan during our initial consultation.
